ABC Family announced that they have put in a series order for Recovery Road, a new scripted drama based on the young adult novel by Blake Nelson of the same name.

Recovery Road centers on a teenage girl, Maddie, who doesn’t think she has an addiction despite her party girl reputation. When a school guidance counselor confronts her issues head-on with expulsion or rehab, Maddie makes the decision to live with other addicts in a rehab facility while dealing with the challenges of being a teenager.

“ABC Family is best known for its ground-breaking original series and Recovery Road is right in our wheelhouse,” said Karey Burke, Executive Vice President, Programming and Development for ABC Family. “This series will explore relevant social issues for our audience and shine a light on addiction. It’s a powerful addition to our line up and the strong, authentic characters are sure to resonate with our audience.”

The pilot will be written by Easy A writer Bert V. Royal and Ruby & the Rockits’ Karen DiConcetto, who will also executive produce alongside Craig Piligian, Beth Miller, and Danielle VonZerneck.
