Is Lena Dunham cutting down on her social media presence?

The Girls actress, whose HBO series enters its fourth season tonight, announced on the Golden Globes red carpet that she deleted Twitter from her phone to “create a safer space for [herself] emotionally.” It’s a surprising move from a star whose brand hinges on her accessibility, but Dunham isn’t the first celebrity to pull back from social media after a barrage of criticism.

“People threaten my life and tell me what a cow I am,” Dunham explained, before adding that she’s not off Twitter entirely. Just hours before the awards ceremony, she reminded her followers to tune in for the Girls season premiere.
