We gave it a B

The marriage of bourgeois French couple Pomme (Emmanuelle Devos) and Pierre (Mathieu Amalric) has devolved into a depressing series of petty arguments and unspoken resentments. He may or may not be having an affair with the local weather girl; she marks off her days with empty errands and nominally welcome drop-ins on her college-age son. When the pair fall into yet another round of peevish bickering on a day hike, Pomme pulls a Cheryl Strayed and decides to stay on her own in the woods. What follows isn’t exactly a Wild adventure; director Sophie Fillières’ film is too French, and too muted, for that. Instead, If You Don’t is a quiet, intermittently poignant portrait of two people who’ve lost each other and aren’t sure they want to find their way back. B
