Syfy's 'The Expanse' trailer has zero gravity sex

Zero Gravity Sex

It’s Syfy’s most expensive series ever—and the best hope for sci-fi fans looking for the next great space opera.

The Expanse is based on James S.A. Corey’s bestseller Leviathan Wakes, which is aiming to be the next Star Trek/Firefly/Farscape-style adventure series. The Expanse is a thriller set 200 years in the future, after mankind has colonized the solar system. The logline: “A hardened detective (Thomas Jane) and a rogue ship’s captain (Steven Strait) come together for what starts as the case of a missing young woman and evolves into a race across the solar system to expose the greatest conspiracy in human history.” The 10-episode first season will debut later this year, with Terry McDonough (Breaking Bad) directing the first two episodes.

We’re firmly excited about The Expanse, but have two notes based on this trailer. First, we want to know more about the zero-g sex. (We’re not entirely convinced having intercourse without an opposing gravitation force is as easily doable as it seems in this trailer, but we’re quite willing to watch more to make up our minds.) And two, we really need to talk about Thomas Jane’s hat.

Syfy also announced today that Jim Uhls (Fight Club) will adapt Robert Charles Wilson’s 2005 novel Spin into a six hour miniseries. The acclaimed novel “centers on a young scientist trying to save humanity from the impending apocalypse of a mysterious, impenetrable cloud that has enveloped the entire Earth, blacking out the stars.”
