Asaf Avidan may not be a household name in the U.S., but in Europe and his native Israel he’s a full-blown rock star. In fact, the first album by his old band, Asaf Avidan & the Mojos, is the top-selling independently released album in Israeli history.
Maybe America will get on his wave after he releases his sophomore solo album, Gold Shadow, on Feb. 3. Its latest single, “The Jail That Sets You Free,” boasts a clever combination of bluesy garage rock, poppy New Wave synths, and a chorus that’s infectious enough to cause an epidemic. Avidan launches his American tour Feb. 1.
