First look: John C. Reilly is back as Steve Brule in 'Bagboy'

DR STEVE BRULE

Attention, all dinguses: John C. Reilly is bumbling his way back to TV as Steve Brule next month.

While no decision has been made yet on a fourth season of Check it Out with Dr. Steve Brulethat delightfully deranged spinoff of Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!Reilly will reprise his role as the questionably coiffed, damaged man-child Steve Brule in Bagboy, a half-hour special that Adult Swim will air on Friday, Feb. 20, at 12:30 a.m.

Here’s the premise of the special: Several years ago, Brule starred in a sitcom pilot titled Bagboy about the employees and customers of Meyer’s Superfoods. In this pilot, he plays a bag boy who attempts to thwart a shoplifter while vying for the affections of a cashier named Daisy. Alas, Channel 5 ultimately shelved the show “due to its substandard quality and low entertainment value.”

“Substandard quality”? “Low entertainment value”? You now have our complete and undivided attention. Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim, who wrote and executive-produced Bagboy with Reilly, kindly gave EW an exclusive preview of the opening scene from this “lost project.” Click on the video above and then ask yourself: Did Channel 5 make the right choice to bag this Boy or was the world was robbed of the next great sitcrom?
