If you’re in the market for a balanced, objective telling of the rise of N.W.A. and the moment during the late ’80s where they turned the world on its head, you probably won’t find it in the upcoming film Straight Outta Compton, which not only has input from the group’s former members, but even stars Ice Cube’s son O’Shea Jackson Jr. playing Ice Cube. But judging by the red-band trailer released Sunday night, it’s at least going to be entertaining.

Preceded by a moody black and white clip of Cube and Dr. Dre revisiting their former stomping grounds, the frenetic trailer suggests that the movie will spice up the traditional rags-to-riches rock star biopic formula with enough provocation to do the group’s legacy justice.
