Kurt Russell  is in negotiations to ship out to sea with Mark Wahlberg for Lionsgate’s upcoming drama Deepwater Horizon, EW has confirmed.

The Pete Berg-directed film follows the events of the 2010 explosion on the BP oil rig that culminated in the biggest oil spill in U.S. history.

In 2011, the feature rights were acquired for The New York Times article “Deepwater Horizon’s Final Hour,” which chronicles the explosion of Deepwater Horizon in the Gulf of Mexico that killed 11 men who were working on the platform and injured 17 more. The oil well wasn’t capped for three months.

Matthew Michael Carnahan is penning the script. The film will also star Gina Rodriguez (Jane the Virgin).

Deepwater Horizon is set for release on Sept. 30, 2016.
