Taylor Swift gets artsy in 'Style' video

After her winking, self-aware video for “Blank Space,” Taylor Swift takes her visuals in a more serious and earnest direction for the next video in the 1989 canon.

The video for “Style” doesn’t have much by way of plot, and the simplest way to describe it is to say it features artistic images of Swift and an attractive (what else?) guy looking beautiful. It has a misty quality and reflection and projection motifs. Shards of glass show up, as do lightening strikes and headlights.

Since Swift posted previews of the video on her Instagram it has drawn comparisons to the True Detective opening credits. Both use human bodies as frames to project images of landscapes. Perhaps Swift’s next cat will be named Rust Cohle. Or Spaghetti Monster.
