Skylar Astin has joined the cast of ABC’s currently untitled comedy pilot about the NBA.

Astin will star as Jason, a teaching assistant who is tapped to be a translator for Mo, a new NBA recruit from a different country. Although Jason’s basketball knowledge is a bit lacking, he realizes he was not just hired to be a translator, but also a friend and mentor.

The Pitch Perfect alum starred on the TBS workplace comedy Ground Floor, which was recently canceled after two seasons.

David Windsor and Casey Johnson will write and executive-produce the comedy pilot with Dan Fogelman, Mike Tollin, Peter Guber and Aaron Kaplan.

Update: This post has been revised to reflect that the NBA player may not be from Botswana specifically.
