Lady Gaga has the approval of Captain von Trapp—or at least the man who played him. In an interview, Christopher Plummer told Deadline that he thought Gaga’s tribute to The Sound of Music was “just wonderful.” “She sang it so well in the style of the piece and she didn’t add any modern rock sounds,” he said. “She did it straight and she has a lovely voice.”
The Oscar winner, however, wasn’t at the ceremony this year. “I didn’t go to the Oscars because first of all I couldn’t, and the second thing, it was a tribute to her,” he told Deadline, referring to Julie Andrews. “I would’ve looked stupid being there and not doing anything.”
In conjunction with the TCM Classic Film Festival, during which Plummer will introduce a restored version the film alongside Julie Andrews, Plummer is getting a hand- and footprint ceremony at the TCL Chinese Theatre (formerly Grauman’s).
