BBC suspended Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson “following a fracas with a BBC producer,” the broadcaster announced Tuesday in a statement. No further details about the so-called fracas were provided.
Clarkson—who’s been in trouble before for spewing inappropriate remarks on live television—has hosted the show, a wildly popular series about cars, since 2002. Over his many years hosting, he’s created a wide fanbase—one dedicated enough to start a petition to get him back on TV: Guido Fawkes launched a petition Tuesday asking BBC to “reinstate Jeremy Clarkson.” The petition currently has over 406,000 supporters.
BBC said an investigation into Clarkson’s behavior is ongoing, though, and that it will not be airing Sunday’s episode of Top Gear.
