French producer Brodinski made us a playlist of his favorite Atlanta rappers

Louis Rogé, who produces music as Brodinski, released his debut album, Brava, earlier this month—a trappy, raw, collection that does exactly as the artist says he hoped: “I want to put some soul back into club music, to have it show more of my feelings.” It’s heavy on guest stars, and to say there’s a pattern would be an understatement: 11 of the 13 tracks feature Atlanta-based rappers. (Yes, Young Scooter, ILoveMakonnen, and Shitro are all there, and so are Bloody Jay and Chill Will.) “It’s what inspires me,” he says, “and I want to create a link between every kind of music that I love.”

A highlight of the record, and an absolute trip of a video, is “Us” featuring Bloody Jay. The artist says the video is about how even when you’re on the other side of the world, “you can discover that even there you don’t feel alone.”

Maybe when we asked Brodinski to make us a playlist, we should have seen what was coming: His top 10 favorite Atlanta rap songs and why. Check them out below.

Gucci Mane - Colors

“Probably my favorite Gucci Mane track ever, it’s a classic for me. Off the Wilt Chamberlain mixtape series.”

Outkast - She Lives in My Lap [ft. Rosario Dawson]

“3 Stacks from Outkast did one of my favorite song ever. Listen to the whole album (Speakerboxx / The Love Below), it’s a masterpiece.”

Black Portland - Suck Me Up

“Ola Playa joins Young Thug & Bloody Jay for this track on their Black Portland project. I had the chance to work with Bloody Jay on my album and he’s an amazing person and artist!”

Young Thug - Chickens [Prod. By London On Tha Track]

“Difficult to choose only one Young Thug track but I remember being obsessed with this one when it came out and I still love it.”

Casino - Eazy (Prod. By DJ Mustard)

“Casino is affiliated with FBG and Future. It’s produced by the infamous Dj Mustard from LA, this one is perfect for clubs!”

Gucci Mane - Scholar

“As I said, Gucci Mane is my favorite rapper—Guwop (one of his nickmane) is for me the Trap God, the biggest figure in Atlanta for the past 10 years.”

Rich Homie Quan - Water

“Taking a break of the Rich Gang project he formed with Birdman & Young Thug, Rich Homie Quan come back alone with this track talking about water. We all need some.”

Future - Nun Bout U (Feat. Cooley) [Prod. By Zaytoven]

“This one is taken from his mixtape “Astronaut Status” that came out in 2012. Future and the producer Zaytoven are one of the best tag-team in Atlanta.”

Peewee Longway - Cheetah Print

“Peewee is one of my favorite rappers for a while now and I especially like this one, which includes a James Bond theme sample. Longway Longway.”

Johnny Cinco - No Trust

“I love Johnny’s Voice, and I think this track is his most achieved work. People call him the hood Drake.”
