Apparently, there’s a reason Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart never had the chance to work together until Get Hard: They were always competing for the same roles.

That is, according to a new video from Funny or Die, in which they explain that their agents were always sending them to the same auditions because they are pretty much the “same type.” What follows is a series of “audition tapes” for the roles they lost to each other.

Hart goes out for the parts of Ron Burgundy, Ricky Bobby, and Buddy the Elf. And Ferrell auditions for Ride Along and even the role of Hart himself in The Real Husbands of Hollywood (making the creative decision to give him a British accent).

“Why did you even go up for that, the character’s name is Kevin Hart?” Hart asks. According to Ferrell, “It didn’t feel like a real name.”

Get Hard co-star T.I. also stops by to share his failed attempt at landing Ferrell’s role in Step Brothers.

Get Hard premieres March 27.
