One Direction is the first true boy band sensation of the Internet era, and in the five years since the group came together, its fandom has generated untold terabytes of 1D-related media of every conceivable type. So it’s no surprise that the announcement that Zayn Malik is leaving the group has ground the Internet to a halt under the weight of the digital response.
