Bad news for dance enthusiasts: Derek Hough, arguably Dancing with the Stars’ top pro, may be sidelined the rest of the season with injuries to his right foot and left ankle, his representative told PEOPLE. The ailments were sustained during Monday’s rehearsal. “He has been diagnosed with a broken toe on his right foot and sprains to his left ankle on both the inside and outside aspects and a bone bruise on the same ankle,” explained the rep. “Derek will remain in Los Angeles this week to rehab his injuries.”

Hough and his partner, 2008 Olympic gold-medal gymnast Nastia Liukin, are among the seven remaining pairs in the show’s 20th season. Hough’s status is unknown for the April 27 taping. Therefore, Liukin will practice with pro Sasha Farber.

Hough was unable to participate in the 10th anniversary DWTS special that taped Tuesday and airs April 28 on ABC.
