Welcome to Me

Genre: Comedy, Drama; Starring: Kristen Wiig, James Marsden, Linda Cardellini; Director: Shira Piven; Release Date Wide: 05/01/2015; Runtime (in minutes): 87; MPAA Rating: R

You’ve got to give the post-Bridesmaids Kristen Wiig credit for juggling big-studio fare with edgier indies. I just wish her taste in indies were more discriminating. Her latest, the aggressively mediocre Welcome to Me, is the kind of comedy that gives quirky a bad name. Wiig plays a woman with borderline personality disorder who wins the lottery and uses the spoils to bankroll her own Oprah-inspired talk show. She’s joined by an ace supporting cast (Tim Robbins, Joan Cusack, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Wes Bentley), but her damaged heroine feels like an SNL character that never would have made it past dress rehearsal.
