Anne Hathaway’s next project? The lead role in a film described as “Godzilla meets Lost in Translation.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hathaway will star in Colossal, which will be written and directed by Spanish filmmaker Nacho Vigalondo (Open Windows). She’ll play Gloria, a woman who returns to her hometown after personal and professional setbacks only to realize that she has a bizarre mental connection to circumstances in Tokyo where a giant lizard is attacking the city.
“Colossal is my most ambitious script so far, and probably also the most personal one. Having Anne and this terrific team around goes beyond my craziest expectations,” said Vigalondo, who is also known for the 2007 sci-fi thriller Timecrimes.
Voltage Pictures will produce the film and is currently looking for foreign buyers at Cannes. Voltage CEO Nicolas Chartier said the company was thrilled to be working on such “an extraordinarily unique piece of material.”
