“Sometimes your worst self is your best self.”

That’s the first line of dialogue from True Detective season 2 we hear — courtesy of Vince Vaughn’s bad guy Frank Semyon — in Thursday’s new trailer. But Vaughn’s not the only one doing the talking: the show’s four leads are all featured. In addition to Semyon (who lights a gasoline trail on fire), we see Ray Velcoro (Colin Farrell) and his bloodied knuckles; a scarred Paul Woodrugh (Taylor Kitsch) traversing what appears to be a gentleman’s club; and a knife-wielding Ani Bezzerides (Rachel McAdams).

There’s tons to unpack here, akin to the first trailer from last month. What’s most revealing has to be Bezzerides’ voice over: “This girl’s gone missing. Nobody cares. The interior’s poisoned, and suddenly worth billions: nobody cares?” We care, Ani. We care.

The second season of HBO’s acclaimed anthology series, created by Nic Pizzolatto, premieres June 21.
