Sun Kil Moon debuts brooding 'Garden of Lavender'

Sun Kil Moon’s Mark Kozelek debuted another new track yesterday from his forthcoming album Universal Themes, and it’s another one of the brooding, dirge-like epics that distinguished 2014’s Benji. “Garden of Lavender” is the third song he’s released from the album, which is due out June 2. While “Ali/Spinks 2” reincorporated the electric sound Kozelek developed in the 90s as a part of Red House Painters, the 10-minute “Garden of Lavender” hews closer to the acoustic storytelling from Universal Themes’ first single “The Possum.”
