World War Z sequel set for 2017 release

The zombie hordes of World War Z are will return to theaters in 2017. According to Paramount, the World War Z sequel is set for a wide release on June 9, 2017.

Little else is known about what the sequel will entail, but The Impossible director Juan Antonio Bayona has been attached to direct with Eastern Promises’ Stephen Knight set to write the script.

The sequel has been in discussion since the first film came out to surprising success at the box office, grossing more than $500 million worldwide. World War Z went through reshoots and rewrites, with the addition of Lost’s Damon Lindelof to the writing team in an effort to rework the end.

Currently, the only other film set for a June 9, 2017 release is a sequel to this year’s Fantastic Four reboot.
