Jason Reitman is making his first jump into the animation film world. DreamWorks Animation announced Wednesday that the Oscar nominee will write and direct Beekle, an adaptation of a Caldecott Award-winning picture book.
“I was book shopping with my daughter, when a little tooth-shaped character in a paper crown stole our hearts. His name was Beekle and I’m honored to now be adapting [Dan] Santat’s charming story into a feature film,” Reitman said in a press release. “I’m particularly proud to be working with DreamWorks Animation, makers of Kung Fu Panda, the first film my daughter ever saw on the big screen.”
The Adventures of Beekle: The Unimaginary Friend, written by Santat, traces the titled star, an imaginary friend, who’s yet to be dreamt up by a real kid. This prompts Beekle to leave his island and embark on an adventure to the city to find his complementary best friend.
Thank you for trusting me with your beautiful friend. I❤️Beekle https://t.co/wJbvzecSb6
