The Blue Bomber is making his return to TV with a new animated series that will celebrate the classic video game chararcter’s 30th anniversary.

Dentsu Entertainment and Man of Action Entertainment have announced a partnership to create a 26-episode animated series based on Mega Man. Dentsu will have worldwide broadcast rights while Man of Action, the creators of Ben 10, will handle work on the show.

“Mega Man is a character that is even more relevant for today’s kids and we are really looking forward to creating something new that still respects the long tradition of the character,” Man of Actions Duncan Rouleau said in a statement.

Mega Man starred in a few previous animated adaptations, including a series in the 1990s and an anime from the early 2000s. The main Mega Man video game franchise has been relatively quiet recently, with Mega Man 10 having been released in 2010. Most recently, Mega Man appeared in Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros. series.

The target air date for the new series is currently 2017, to coincide with Mega Man’s 30th anniversary.
