We gave it a B+

Vida’s twisting, feverish novel may be slim, but it’s full of intrigue, betrayal, and enough mysterious doppelgängers to overwhelm even Orphan Black’s Tatiana Maslany. In a move as jarring as it is gutsy, Vida writes in the second person, thus casting “you” the reader as the unnamed protagonist, forced to flee from your twin sister and husband in Florida to Morocco. When your passport is immediately stolen, the police hand you someone else’s. You both know the person in the photo is not you, but you cut your hair to resemble her anyway. So begins a series of deceptions as you cast off one identity then another, never sure if you’re trying to find yourself or leave the real “you” behind. B+
