Halo 5: Guardians is embracing the franchise’s larger lore, introducing characters only previously seen in stories from the universe told outside the main video games, and also featuring the return of a beloved character from a previous Halo game.
Game Informer unveiled Halo 5 as its next featured game, and along with it came a preview of the game and the news that the game will include the appearance of Linda, Fred, and Kelly, Spartan-II soldiers who famously fought alongside Halo’s main protagonist John 117. These characters will appear throughout the campaign when players go it alone, but when jumping into cooperative play with up to three other players, each player will control one of the four reunited Spartan soldiers.
Jameson Locke, introduced in the Halo Nightfall series, will be hunting down these four soldiers, the famed Blue Team, with a team of his own. Among his recruited teammates will be Nathan FIllion’s character from Halo 3: ODST, Edward Buck. A model of Fillion’s character is glimpsed in the Game Informer reveal video, above.
More will be seen about the game throughout the month and during Microsoft’s E3 showings next week. Halo 5: Guardians is set to release on the Xbox One on Oct. 27.
