Lego Avengers trailer shows off battle of New York, hints at Ultron

(TT Games)

Fans of Lego video games have a busy year ahead of them. Lego Jurassic World debuts this Friday, Lego Dimensions will bring a host of franchises together this fall, and Lego Marvel’s Avengers will arrive this winter. TT Games revealed the first look at the latter on Tuesday in the game’s E3 trailer.

The extended look at the game promises players the chance to participate in the battle of New York from the original The Avengers film, with all of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes from the original film joining the fray. Soar through the New York City skyline as Iron Man, cast down thunder and lightning as Thor, and take selfies as the Hulk while defeating the Chitauri (that last one must have been a deleted scene).

The Lego video game series’ penchant for humor appears to be in full effect here, though something much darker looms on the horizon, with Ultron making a brief appearance at the trailer’s end. The game’s official description promises that players will be able to relive classic moments from the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe, but just how much of the MCU will be included is unknown.

This will also not be the first outing for Marvel’s heroes in virtual Lego form. Lego Marvel Superheroes spanned the entire Marvel comics universe with an original story, while this film will be more of an adaptation of Marvel’s cinematic outings.

The game is set to come to Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, Wii U, Nintendo 3DS, and Windows PC this winter.
