Unauthorized Beverly Hills, 90210 movie in the works at Lifetime

Lifetime is bringing the gang from West Beverly High back to the airwaves with an unauthorized pic about the cast of Beverly Hills, 90210.

For the very few who aren’t familiar with the show (the Peach Pit anyone?), Beverly Hills, 90210 was a ‘90s teen drama that ran for 10 seasons and helped to define the then recently launched Fox network. It also helped to launch the careers of actors Jason Priestley, Luke Perry, Shannen Doherty, Jennie Garth and Tori Spelling.

“An international pop culture phenomenon, the drama series Beverly Hills, 90210 ruled the 1990s television landscape,” Lifetime said in a statement.

The announcement follows April’s news about Lifetime’s upcoming (and also unauthorized) Full House movie. The network previously aired an unauthorized movie about fellow ’90s favorite Saved By The Bell in 2014.

According to Lifetime’s logline for the film, “The Unauthorized Beverly Hills, 90210 Story will show the roller coaster ride of the program’s first four seasons, highlighting the drama between cast members and producers both on and off-set, including the series’ journey from several near-cancellations to its massive success and imprint in the cultural zeitgeist and lasting impression it has made on millions of people to this day.”

Directed by Vanessa Parise (PopFan), the film will be executive produced by Peter M. Green (Mean Girls 2) and Howard Braunstein (The Informant!), with a script penned by Jeff Roda (Love Liza). An air date has not been announced.
