Rob Zombie to direct Raised Eyebrows, the story of Groucho Marx's final years

(Everett Collection)

Rob Zombie’s latest project takes a surprising turn from his familiar horror roots to profile one of comedy’s most influential names.

EW can confirm that Zombie and Cold Iron Pictures’ Miranda Bailey have acquired the rights to produce a film based on Raised Eyebrows: My Years Inside Groucho’s House. The book was written by Steve Stoliar, a big Marx brothers fan, who had the opportunity to track the final years of Groucho’s life while serving as his personal secretary. After working with Groucho, Stoliar told his story through the lens of Groucho’s life and the people around him, including his brothers and his partner during those later years, Erin Fleming.

Oren Moverman, who co-wrote Love & Mercy, is signed on to write the script, while Bailey will produce it with Zombie, who is also directing the film.

No cast or release date has been announced for the film. Deadline first reported the deal.
