Patti Smith had perhaps the greatest surprise guest at her Glastonbury set on Sunday. While performing on the Pyramid stage, she brought out the Dalai Lama to celebrate his 80th birthday.

“We are grateful to him for all his love of humanity and making people aware of the importance of saving the planet,” she told the crowd, who then sang “Happy Birthday To You.”

The Dalai Lama thanked the audience after blowing out one single candle and said, “Dear brothers and sisters, I really appreciate so many people’s expression of warm feeling. I dedicate my body, space and mind to the well-being of others.”
