The epic adventure Everest will open the 72nd Venice Film Festival, it was announced Wednesday.

Directed by Baltasar Kormákur (2 Guns), the Universal Pictures film chronicles the true story of two different expeditions to the mountain’s summit in 1996, challenged by harsh elements including a fierce snowstorm.

Everest stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Jason Clarke, Josh Brolin, John Hawkes, Robin Wright, Michael Kelly, Sam Worthington, Emily Watson, and Keira Knightley.

The film, which was shot in Nepal, Italy, and at Pinewood Studios in the U.K., will screen out of competition at the Venice festival. It opens in U.S. theaters in IMAX 3-D and premium-large format 3-D screens on Sept. 18, before hitting wide release (including standard 2-D and 3-D screens) on Sept. 25.

The Venice Film Festival runs Sept. 2-12. You can see the trailer for Everest below.
