UPDATE: Peeta must have learned some tricks of deception inside the walls of the Capitol. According to sources close to Lionsgate, there are no plans for another film at this time — despite what Josh Hutcherson told Conan O’Brien on Thursday night.

EARLIER: The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 arrives in theaters on Nov. 20, and signals the end of the popular franchise. But maybe not? That’s at least what Josh Hutcherson perhaps accidentially told Conan O’Brien while appearing on Thursday’s Conan.

After O’Brien asked Jennifer Lawrence what she thought of the possibility that Lionsgate, the studio behind The Hunger Games, could extend the series with a sequel or prequel film, Hutcherson jumped in and said those plans were already in the works. “There is,” Hutcherson said before immediately backtracking. “Oh,” he said as Lawrence went wide-eyed at his admission.

“I’m sorry. No, I can’t say that. I’m sorry. We’ll see what happens,” Hutcherson said. “We’ll see what happens.” O’Brien called it the “worst lying he’s ever seen.”

But while Hutcherson “would love” to act in more Hunger Games films, Lawrence thinks the cast is “too old.”

“I know there’s going to be a reboot with younger, hotter people in our lifetime,” Lawrence said. “Like, within 10 years.”
