Part of a wildly successful franchise, Fear the Walking Dead comes with a built-in fan base and all the sky-high expectations that come with being in the same desolate, apocalyptic universe as The Walking Dead.
With that in mind, there are two things that the cast and showrunner Dave Erickson really want you to know:
1. It is not a spin-off. The Fear crew doesn’t like to use that term, as seen in the above interview shot inside the Entertainment Weekly Lounge at Comic-Con in San Diego on Saturday. It is a companion series.
2. It is not just like The Walking Dead. Erickson made that very clear at the Fear panel on Friday, as well as in the above interview with EW. The companion series takes place in Los Angeles as the outbreak hits, and the characters are down-to-earth, regular people with regular problems — nowhere near like the battle-hardened Rick Grimes and his merry band of zombie-killers.
