Atlanta rapper Future releases his next album DS2 on Friday, and he recently stopped by HuffPost Live to chat about the project. He also offered details about his split with singer and model Ciara, who’s now dating Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson.
“I feel like 95 percent of relationships end with cheating, but me and her relationship had nothing to do with cheating,” the rapper said, responding to allegations that he had been unfaithful to Ciara. “We grew apart. When you the man, you wanna make certain decisions for yourself and she wanna make certain decisions. And I feel like the best route for me is to make more music, to go back to Atlanta and go back to my roots. Sometimes the lady don’t see what you see. That was a hard situation but at the end of the day it wasn’t about that. I called off [the engagement] long before any cheating rumors came out.”
Future added that Ciara wasn’t mad when he called of the relationship, because he explained that he wasn’t interested in a marriage that would be highly scrutinized by industry insiders and the media.
Ciara’s new relationship made headlines last week when Wilson said the couple is honoring their Christian faith by abstaining from sex. But Future had contradictory comments about his own intimate relationship with the singer.
“God told me something else,” he said. “He ain’t tell me to wait. I guarantee you that. We prayed afterwards though. After we did it, we prayed. That’s a true story.”
