Mexican musician Joan Sebastian, known as “El Rey del Jaripeo” or “the King of Mexican Rodeo,” died Sunday after a long battle with bone cancer. He was 64 years old.

Over the course of his decades-long career, the legendary musician won five Grammys and seven Latin Grammys. Best known for hits like “Trampa” and “Secreto de Amor,” Sebastian routinely topped the charts, often performing on horseback.

First diagnosed in 1999, Sebastian struggled with bone cancer several times over the years, and a few weeks ago, his son, Julián Figueroa, confirmed that his father had been undergoing cancer treatment. Sebastian announced in 2014 that he would be retiring from rodeo because of his health, but he would continue performing music.
