Sam Smith recently returned to the stage after surgery on his vocal cords, but before starting the U.S. leg of his tour he checked in with his doctors in Boston and gave fans an update via Instagram.

“So just want to keep everyone in the loop; I have been in Boston the last few days to have a check up on my throat, before I embark on my American tour,” he wrote. “MY THROAT IS LOOKING BLOODY FANTASTIC. So it’s amazing news. So happy. It’s going to be a really tough month of shows but I can’t wait to see you all, and pray it’s going to be a smooth ride. LET’S GO.”

After his first show back on July 3, Smith posted a note of appreciation. “First show back (this pose is an example of my constant attempt to be Beyoncé haha) – Felt unreal. Not gonna lie, was shattered. It was like breaking your leg and doing your first run. But god it feels so good to see you all again. I’ve missed you so much xx”

His U.S.tour begins in Kentucky on Friday and runs through August, after which he’ll continue performing abroad. A full set of tour dates can be found on his website.
