FX cancels The Comedians after one season

(Frank Ockenfels/FX)

No more laughs from Billy Crystal and Josh Gads on FX: The network has axed their sitcom The Comedians after one season.

Executive Producer Ben Wexler broke the news via Twitter.

“The Comedians is cancelled at FX,” he wrote. “I could not be more proud of the work we all did.”

The show focused on a veteran comedian (Crystal) who is reluctantly paired with an up-and-coming jokester (Gad) to star in a sketch comedy, while a documentary crew films their behind-the-scenes conversations.

The role marked Crystal’s return to TV since starring as Jodie Dallas in the ABC comedy Soap from 1977 to 1981.

The Comedians was based on a Swedish series.
