Michael Shannon is joining the cast of the upcoming Broadway revival of Long Day’s Journey Into Night.
The actor — an Oscar nominee for Revolutionary Road — will play James Tyrone, Jr. in the Eugene O’Neill play. He’ll star alongside Jessica Lange (as his character’s mother, the recovering morphine addict Mary Tyrone), Gabriel Bryne (as father James Tyrone), and John Gallagher Jr. (as younger brother Edmund).
The production, directed by Jonathan Kent and produced by the Roundabout Theatre Company in association with Ryan Murphy, will begin previews on March 31 and officially opens at the American Airlines Theatre on April 19.
The limited engagement, part of RTC’s 50th anniversary season, is slated to run through June 26.
