Layla El is leaving the squared circle. In an interview with WWE.com, the famed Diva announced she is retiring from the wrestling circuit, effective immediately.

“I feel like deciding to retire from the ring has been a hard decision to make because I’m passionate and I love performing,” El told the website. “But sometimes you just need to step out and take a risk and move onto the next phase in life.”

In 2006, El won WWE Diva Search and made her company debut. She won the 2010 WWE Women’s Championship — the first Diva Search winner to do so — and the WWE Divas Championship in 2012.

“I am proud that I did make it in the ring and I can truly walk away saying, ‘I’m a good wrestler,’ ” El said. “I did really well and I was able to break through the negative and definitely prove people wrong.”

El also took to Twitter to thank her fans on her way out of WWE.

Head to WWE.com to learn what plans El has for her post-wrestling life.
