It didn’t take much to convince Stephen Moyer to join FX’s new Medieval drama The Bastard Executioner: He and his wife Anna Paquin were already huge fans of creator Kurt Sutter and his last series, Sons of Anarchy.

In fact, the couple who met on HBO’s True Blood were so “obsessed” with the outlaw biker series that Sutter even offered Moyer (who played Bill Compton) and Paquin (Sookie Stackhouse) a couple of roles in SOA’s final season.

“I was going to play a pimp and she was going to play a whore,” Moyer told EW exclusively. “We were trying to make it work. We were dead into it. The thing was, we agreed to have some time off after the end of True Blood, and we had already arranged it. Anna paid for the flights to New Zealand, and it happened that these bits and pieces were shooting while we were in New Zealand, and she hadn’t seen her family. We hadn’t been down there for ages. We just said we can’t do it, but we were obsessed with Sons, and it was date night tele for us in that macabre and weird, strange way that Sons of Anarchy became.”

Moyer plays Milus Corbett, a former soldier-turned-right hand of a Lord, in Executioner, a period drama that will bow this fall. Moyer, along with castmates Lee Jones and Katey Sagal, will join Sutter to discuss the series at the Television Critics Tour on Friday.
