Kelly Clarkson’s tour continued in St. Paul on Tuesday night, and as part of her promise to cover a different song at each show, she paid homage to Minnesota’s greatest music legend, Prince. Clarkson gave “Purple Rain” a makeover but kept it funky, and the crowd went berserk.

“This is such a great classic song from someone from here,” she said while introducing the track. “This is ‘Purple Rain,’ y’all.” As the audience erupted, she joked. “No pressure!”

Earlier this summer Clarkson explained her decision to do a cover in each city to EW. “We do a fan request every show, letting someone in the audience pick a song for us to cover,” she said. “It’s a lot of fun for me and the band because the shows can become monotonous, and this keeps us on our toes.”

So far, she’s nailed Nick Jonas’ “Jealous,” *NSYNC’s “Bye Bye Bye,” Rihanna’s “Stay” and Taylor Swift’s “Blank Space,” to name a few.
