Divisive X-Files character returning to series revival

A divisive character from The X-Files past is coming on board the revival.

Annabeth Gish will reprise her role as FBI Agent Monica Reyes in the event series.

Agent Reyes, along with her friend and partner Agent John Doggett (Robert Patrick), joined the Fox sci-fi procedural in the eighth season in 2000 as part of Fox’s effort to prolong the popular drama despite the loss of star David Duchovny amid a contract dispute.

Doggett and Reyes were considered by some fans an unwelcome Ver. 2.0 replacement team for Agents Mulder (Duchovny) and Scully (Gillian Anderson). Duchovny eventually returned for the 2002 series finale, then Duchovny and Anderson starred in the two X-Files films and the upcoming six-episode limited series.

Does this mean Doggett will be back too? Nope. Patrick is currently on CBS’ Scorpion, and recently told a reporter he’s not coming back to X-Files.

In recent years, Gish has been on FX’s Sons of Anarchy, ABC Family’s Pretty Little Liars, and FX’s The Bridge

X-Files returns Sunday, Jan. 24. Last week, EW reported that Mulder and Scully would be broken up in the new show.
