Mariah Carey might be returning to TV: Empire star Jussie Smollett told People that Carey will be guest-starring on the Fox drama.
“That rumor is true,” he told People. “That makes me feel so good to say that rumor is true.”
Meanwhile, sources tell EW that there is no deal in place but that the show would certainly like to have her on board — when Carey received her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame last week, Empire co-creator Lee Daniels told the crowd to “watch her on Empire, you guys. She’s coming on Empire.”
Smollet was tight-lipped about the potential role, however – “I’m not getting fired, not this season!” he joked, going on to tell People that “there will be some really painful things that happen” in season 2. “Some deep changes. The audience has got to keep riding with us and stick with it because it’s next level. It’s so exciting. I thought to myself, ‘How could we top season one?’ But apparently it’s possible though. It’s crazy. [My character] Jamal is certainly not the same.”
Carey has previously appeared on TV as a judge on American Idol in 2013 and in multiple movies including Precious and The Butler. Read the full story over at People.
