Vincent Price cookbook to be celebrated with food-and-movie tour

(Everett Collection)

Scaring the pants of cinemagoers was just one of several activities ardently pursued by horror movie icon Vincent Price. The actor was also a noted art collector and gourmand who, in 1965, published the cookbook A Treasury of Great Recipes with his wife, Mary.

Half a century on, that book is being republished in a 50th anniversary edition (out Sept. 16) and, to mark the event, the Alamo Drafthouse cinema chain has organized a nationwide touring food and film event. Each date will boast a multi-course meal, a screening of the Price-starring cult classic horror film The Abominable Dr. Phibes, and the presence of the actor’s daughter Victoria, who will be sharing memories of her father with the multi-media presentation, Explore, Savor, Celebrate: Life with Vincent Price.

“Collaborating with Alamo Drafthouse to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of my parents’ iconic cookbook is a dream come true!!” Victoria Price was quoted as saying in the release announcing the tour. “I am genuinely excited about sharing stories about my family legacy with audiences around the country. My parents created this cookbook to share their philosophy of living and eating: Explore, Savor, Celebrate! Which is exactly what we will all be doing at Alamo Drafthouse as we come together to savor great food, celebrate by watching my father’s movies, and explore the stories of my parents’ lives and legacy! It doesn’t get any better than that!”

The tour begins in Houston, on Sept. 27. You can see the trailer for The Abominable Dr. Phibes, below.
