The biopic bump is real. N.W.A’s album Straight Outta Compton has sold three million copies, but the rap group had never achieved a Top 40 hit — until Tuesday.

Due to a renewed interest in the influential gangster rap group led by Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, and Eazy-E, by way of America’s No. 1 movie Straight Outta Compton, the single of the same name hit No. 38 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was tabbed as this week’s Hot Shot Debut. The song was released as a single in July 1988, over 27 years ago.

The album itself has fared better, currently sitting at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 album list. It peaked at No. 37 when released in August 1988.

The lesson? Nostalgia is beautiful, lucrative thing.
