A new trailer for the rock ‘n’ roll road movie Rock the Kasbah turns Bill Murray loose in the Middle East, and the results are — to borrow from the Free song used in the video — all right now.
Murray, an expert at modulating between deadpan delivery, kooky outbursts, and moments of quiet drama, plays washed-up rock manager Richie Lanz in the Barry Levinson-directed comedy. While shepherding a pop starlet (Zooey Deschanel) on a USO tour of Afghanistan, Lanz gets ditched in the desert but remains dogged in his search for the next big thing.
He eventually finds a new protege in young local singer Salima (Leem Lubany) and decides to brave the dangers of a war-torn country — not to mention reality TV — to make her a star. All he’s asking in return is 20 percent.
Also along for the ride are Bruce Willis, Kate Hudson, and Danny McBride. Rock the Kasbah opens Oct. 23. Watch the new trailer below.
