Matt Damon gets blown away in first clip for The Martian

I have no practical idea what 8,600 Newtons means, but it’s safe to say that it’s not terminology you want to hear from your local weatherman.

In this first clip from The Martian, courtesy of Yahoo, the Ares 3 all-star team of astronauts faces a Martian hurricane of sorts that threatens their historic mission on the red planet. Their grounded spacecraft might tip in those conditions, so commander Jessica Chastain quickly decides they need to plan to abort. Matt Damon wants to wait it out, and the team makes one venture outside to see what can be done. It doesn’t go well.

The Martian, directed by Ridley Scott, premieres this weekend at the Toronto International Film Festival. It opens in theaters on Oct. 2. Here’s the full trailer.
