Game of Thrones casts Babadook actress in season 6

Another Game of Thrones casting update: Australian actress Essie Davis has signed onto season 6, EW has confirmed. 

Davis is best known as the star of the 2014 horror film The Babadook. She was also in the two Matrix sequels and the Aussie version of The Slap miniseries.

Davis is reportedly playing a member of a traveling theater troupe in Braavos that stages a play called “The Bloody Hand” — a version of all the King’s Landing intrigue that’s gone down on the show since the series began (apparently, even in the wild continent of Essos, the Lannisters’ antics are considered pretty dramatic stuff). During this play-within-the-show, Davis portrays Cersei Lannister. 

The list of new cast members continues to expand as season 6 production continues in Northern Ireland and Spain, with a couple recent names leaking online via fans taking photos of the set for the Watchers on the Wall fan site. The new castmembers include Max von Sydow (as the Three-Eyed Raven), Ian McShane, Richard E. Grant (in undisclosed roles), Freddie Stroma (as Dickon Tarly) and Pilou Asbæk (Euron Greyjoy). Thrones returns next spring.
