The cast of 'The Martian' reveals the most difficult part of making Ridley Scott's space epic

(EW)

Matt Damon stars in The Martian, but Ridley Scott’s new film is loaded with one of the year’s biggest casts: Jessica Chastain, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Jeff Daniels, Michael Pena, Kate Mara, Sebastian Stan, Donald Glover, and more support Damon in the new movie. A handful – Ejiofor, Daniels, Pena and Mara – appeared at the PEOPLE, InStyle and Entertainment Weekly’s photo studio at the Toronto International Film Festival to talk about what they learned on the film, and the most difficult part of making a space epic.

“I think the most difficult part was the suits,” Mara, who plays an astronaut in the movie, told JD Heyman. “They weighed about 30 pounds […] that was hard. You feel very secluded and you can’t hear anybody except each other. We all became very close. For better and worse.”

Check out what the cast found out about space travel in the video above. The Martian is out on Oct. 2.
