See Chris Cornell cover Prince's 'Nothing Compares 2 U'

It’s a crazy week for big-name music covers. Ryan Adams already ran Taylor Swift’ 1989 through a filter of The Smiths and came out with a stripped-down breakup album. Now grunge superstar Chris Cornell (formerly of Soundgarden, Audioslave, and the Casino Royale theme song) has added cello, guitars, and his own inimitable voice to Prince’s “Nothing Compares 2 U,” as part of Sirius XM’s “Artist Confidential” series. The result is a pained, grunge-y ballad with a lovely acoustic guitar solo.

Adams’ 1989benefits from the lack of Swift on Spotify. So too may fans hungry for their favorite Prince jam (the artist’s music is currently only available online through Tidal) settle for Cornell’s acoustic version instead. Watch the song above, and see more videos in Sirius XM’s “Artist Confidential” series on their YouTube channel.
