There are lots of doctors on TV these days — Dr. Phil, Dr. Ken, Doctor Who — but only one boasts a childlike intellectual curiosity, a stunning lack of coordination/self-awareness, and the abililty to heal through laughter: Dr. Steve Brule.
Adult Swim’s Check It Out! with Dr. Steve Brule stars John C. Reilly as the odd, oblivious titular figure who embarks on educational missions to glean insights into the wonders of life. (Last season, he learned about planes. And horses. And God.) Brule hasn’t been on the air since early 2014 (save for a 30-minute Bag Boy special that aired this winter), but his return is somewhat nigh. The quarter-hour comedy — which was created by Reilly, Tim Heidecker, and Eric Wareheim — began production on its fourth season earlier this week, EW has learned.
Enjoy a first-look photo from the set above. And now, a few words about next season from Heidecker: “Eric and I are very excited to assist the good doctor in educating and enlightening the Adult Swim audience. Dr. Brule intends to further explore and investigate the very fundamental aspects of life that make us who we are.”
Among the topics to be covered: “Cars and eggs.”
Season 4 of Check It Out! will air in 2016.
